Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
Every October, breast cancer organizations and charities all around the world celebrate the International Month for Breast Cancer Awareness. This upcoming October, the Jordan Breast Cancer Program (JBCP) is launching a massive nation-wide campaign aimed at educating and raising awareness of the public at large and females in specific on breast cancer and the importance of early detection, but perhaps more importantly, focuses on encouraging women aged 40 and above to get their mammograms.
Throughout the month of October, JBCP collaborating with the various health sectors in Jordan in the implementation of a multitude of planned activities that will be held throughout the Kingdom, including road shows, information booths and exhibitions in major shopping malls, superstores, schools and universities, interactive and educational lectures, free clinical breast examinations and discounted mammograms at public and private hospitals and centers, television and radio coverage, a free hotline, the production and distribution of educational brochures, posters and pink ribbons – the symbol of breast cancer awareness – among countless other activities.
THEME AND MESSAGE: The main theme for this October Campaign is promoting the attainment of regular mammograms, specifically for women aged 40 years and older, and in accordance with the national guidelines for breast screening. The campaign message this October is: فحصك الاّن... يعني الأمان.
As Jordan’s largest and most widespread breast cancer awareness campaign so far, the October 2008 Campaign is expected to engage hundreds of thousands – from the school student to the homemaker to the career woman – in the national fight against breast cancer. More than 1,500 awareness lectures will be conducted, in addition to dozens of road shows in malls, superstores, and other high traffic areas. Furthermore, free clinical breast examinations and discounted mammograms will be available in the various health sectors.
PARTNERS: JBCP’s partners in the campaign include the Ministry of Health, King Hussein Cancer Foundation, King Hussein Cancer Center, Royal Medical Services, UNRWA, World Health Organization, USAID Jordan Private Sector Project for Women’s Health, Jordan University, Jordan University Hospital, King Abdullah Hospital, and the Jordan Association for Family Planning and Protection. We are also working with the Ministry of Social Development, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, All Youth Commission, Jordan River Foundation, and Micro fund for Women.
